87 Restaurant & Bar‘s beer might not be the cheapest in town, but it’s definitely cheap enough. An ice cold mug of Tiger beer is RM9.90 and it proved too enticing for me to pass up. Seeing that most cafes in the vicinity charge RM10 for a latte I might as well have a beer instead.

Cheap beer aside, food is also sensibly priced. There are only two items in the menu that exceeds the RM20 mark. The chef also seems to have a soft spot for roast pork, as you can find it featured prominently in their burgers, finger food, noodles and fried rice.

Even if you are here just for a drink, it’d be silly not to try their Crispy Pork Belly @ RM15. Flavor wise, a tad sweet for me personally as I am used to having salty roast pork, but everything else was great. You can choose from two kinds of dipping sauce too: garlic mayo or chili mayo.

Surprise surprise, we didn’t expect to find curry laksa in a bar, even more so a good one. If you like your curry laksa gravy rich and creamy, you will definitely love this. For RM14, the noodle also comes with chunks of their signature ‘siu yuk’, chicken curry (delicious!) and a huge, succulent prawn.

I have to say the Chicken & Egg burger @ RM18 looks a bit off, like it wasn’t meant to be enjoyed with hands. Having said that, it is still a tasty burger that I wouldn’t mind having again with fork and knife. I am not sure if the chef would oblige serving it with a sunny side up instead, but I don’t think it’d hurt to ask.

Aglio Olio with Prawns & Soft Boil Egg @ RM16 – pasta cooked just right, fresh prawns and perfect amount of seasoning.

Hainanese Chicken Chop @ RM12 – it’s not the best I have had but with that kind of price, one can’t really argue.

Overall, I have nothing bad to say about our experience at 87 Restaurant & Bar. If I had to nitpick though, it would have to be the awkward looking chicken burger.
Fortunately they are still new, so early customers’ feedback will certainly help in fine tuning their menu and food presentation. Set lunch is available from RM9.90 onwards and includes an iced lemon tea.
