Hon Kee Famous Porridge @ Petaling Street, KL
Aug 18th
It’s been more than a year since I visited Hon Kee 汉记靓粥 for their famous porridge. How time flies. I remembered my first time eating there. SL brought me there for breakfast on the day I traveled back to Penang for my new job. Now, I am back to Cyberjaya and it’s my turn to be the guide – my parents came down to KL for a short visit not long ago and I brought them to here. They liked it!
Hon Kee was still as busy as ever so do come early if you want to have a nice seat. We were early, but weren’t so fortunate to get a table at the stall. Because of that we had to sit on the other side of the road near the ikan bakar stall, which was kinda deserted and dark (even for a morning).
I think the Raw Snakehead Fish Porridge (Sang Yu Zhuk) here is the nicest.. Click here to continue reading >
Sweet Potato Balls @ Petaling Street, KL
Jun 22nd
Do you know there’s a stall selling sweet potato balls outside the Tang City Food Court at Petaling Street? I didn’t until I bought TheStar’s Street Food Guide. My parents were in KL not too long ago for a short trip and I brought them to try the famous porridge at Hon Kee.
After that, while they went to buy some traditional biscuits at Fung Wong Biscuits to bring home, I went to find this stall and bought some to try.
It is said that the stall has been here for nearly 30 years, and the sweet potato balls are always prepared fresh.
Famous Hon Kee Porridge @ Petaling Street

I am not a big fan of porridge. Really. I have always considered porridge boring, tasteless and something which I’d only eat when I am sick. Some sort of a food therapy for the unwell. But, a porridge stall off Petaling Street managed to change my perception towards porridge, which is Famous Hon Kee Porridge 汉记靓粥. It has been around for decades and had garnered good reviews from food bloggers in the past. Now, it includes me.
