Orang Hock Rojak @ Jalan Pasar, Bukit Mertajam

In Bukit Mertajam, there’s a battle of fruit Rojak among three stalls all located at the same intersection. Even the stalls have similar names as well in like 黑人罗惹 (Orang Hitam), 白人罗惹 (Orang Putih) and 黑白人罗惹 (Orang Hitam Putih). Was it a case of riding on other’s fame to confuse the unknowing customers, or was it a lack of naming creativity, I really don’t know lol.
But if my memory serves me correctly, Orang Hock is the first stall and hence so-called the authentic BM Rojak. By the way, Bukit Mertajam’s rojak sauce is quite good and usually bought by visitors as hand gifts to bring home.
But as far as taste goes, I feel all three of them are quite similar. There’s really no distinctive difference except maybe on the quality of fruits that they use. But if you ask me which stall gives the most crushed peanuts, I’d say it’s Orang Hock’s.
RM1.30 Cendol Opposite Taman Bahagia LRT Station

Damn the weather nowadays is killing me. Thanks to the haze the daytime doesn’t feel like daytime anymore because the sunlight is freaking blocked and smoke is all I see! Even when it rains it only lasts for a few minutes wtf.
Lucky for us there’s cheap and body cooling desserts like ais kacang and cendol easily available – whether in a coffee shop, food court or by the road side. But, finding a tasty one remains as the main challenge.
I was hunting for good cendol around Subang Jaya and the stall opposite Taman Bahagia LRT station had quite a few recommendations online. Realizing my office is not exactly too far from it, I decided to drop by one day after lunch.
I was expecting to see a proper stall but it was actually a mobile stall operating using a van. Setup beside a housing area’s playground, it’s very easy to locate – just use the LRT as the landmark.
The cendol is dirt cheap here, RM1.30 a bowl. It is one of the better tasting cendol I have had so far since coming to KL (you won’t believe the level of crappiness in the worst ever cendol I had not long ago. Famous Pasembur / Indian Rojak @ Kepong

There’s a famous Indian Rojak @ Pasembur stall in Kepong that draws long queues as soon as the stall starts selling. It doesn’t even have a name! So, I had to see it to believe it.
Pasembur is also known as Malaysian Indian Salad. It usually consists of shredded cucumber, bean sprouts (taugeh), beancurd (tau fu), prawn fritters, hard boiled egg, potatoes or yam and sotong. The preparation is very simple.. just chop all the ingredients, mix them up and serve with the sweet and spicy nutty sauce.
We had two plates and another to take away and it cost RM11.50. I can’t work out the exact price for one because all our orders were different. Some had extra prawn fritters, some had no sotong lol. The portion may look small, but it was actually very fulling.
When I arrived there was really a long queue. And many of them take away at least five or six packets each! So, waiting time is quite long. The uncle is very nice and polite 
When I was queuing up I could smell the [tag]pasembur[/tag] sauce’s aroma even feet away. It made me really impatient to try it lol.
The stall is said to open from 2pm onwards and could finish before 3.30pm. That’s how brisk their business is. This no-name stall is located beside the durian stalls in [tag]Kepong[/tag], just opposite the big church in front of the old roundabout. If you are lost, just ask anyone about the famous Indian rojak near the durian stalls!
