Avanti Italian-American Restaurante @ Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa
Nov 2nd
It all began with a sudden crave for steak. Ever since I had the slab of Maria’s heavenly Charbroil Australian Wagyu steak, there was no turning back – I am now a Wagyu Steak convert. To fulfill my desire for this expensive luxury food I went to Avanti, an Italian-American restaurant in Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. Instead of the many other well known and established steakhouse like Prime at Le Meridien, I chose Avanti simply because of its location.
I didn’t have the mood nor patience to get through the traffic jam leading to KL’s city center, especially on a Friday night. Besides, I didn’t read any complaints on the restaurant’s food after Googling around so I thought it should be alright. Sadly I went home a disappointed, a few hundred bucks poorer and did not had my cravings fulfilled, at all.
The night started well though, with unlimited supply of crusty bread to go with the tuna or dipping them in olive oil while we waited for our main courses to arrive. Our soup – Southern Italian Spicy Seafood Soup was perhaps the dish we enjoyed the most throughout the night.
Being robust and flavorful, a blend of different seafood like scallop, prawn and squid are prepared along with a generous amount of sliced shallot. Since this is fine dining it shouldn’t be surprising that a serving like this cost RM29. Did your jaw drop? lol.
Among the choices of Chateaubriand (beats me), Entrecote Double (omg what is this lol), Beef Tenderloin, Rib Eye and Strip-Loin, I chose Grilled Australian Chilled Wagyu Beef Tenderloin for being the most tender part of the beef. Click here to continue reading >
Tasty Pot BBQ & Steamboat Buffet Restaurant @ Sunway Mentari, Bandar Sunway
Sep 5th
Much has been said about Tasty Pot, a BBQ and steamboat buffet restaurant at Sunway Mentari. Thanks to the publicity generated by HoChak and a group of bloggers who have recently done a food review session there, the place was doing brisk business – definitely one of the busiest steamboat restaurants at Sunway Mentari.
This is quite an accomplishment itself considering the strong competition. If you don’t know, Sunway Mentari is like a place where steamboat restaurants gather at. There are like more than 10 steamboat restaurants here and the number is still growing.
The variety of seafood at Tasty Pot is good and the freshness level is high. And the portion of the seafood is big too especially the crabs, proving to be a value for money.
Bamboo clams, lala and prawns.
Some processed food – meat balls and sui gao. Click here to continue reading >
Senjyu Sushi @ Sunway Pyramid – Premium Japanese Kaiten Sushi Restaurant
Apr 17th
**The food prices shown in this post were based the last year’s menu. Senjyu Sushi’s new menu has a more affordable price of Kaiten sushi starting from RM2.
I am in the midst of clearing my archive posts, and one of them is my visit to Senjyu Sushi last year on New Year’s Eve. Senjyu Sushi proudly claims itself as the first premium Japanese Kaiten (conveyor belt) Sushi restaurant in Malaysia, where their delectable offerings of sushi and sashimi are specially airflown to ensure the best quality for customers’ enjoyment.
Being related to Sakae Sushi, they only launched less than a year ago in August 2008. And if I am not mistaken, there are two Senjyu Sushi outlets in Malaysia currently – one in Sunway Pyramid and another in Cineleisure Mutiara Damansara.
The price for each plate of sushi (according to plate color) is clearly displayed at the side of each table just under the conveyor belt. The cheapest Kaiten Sushi (Red plates) are RM4, Black plates RM6, Grey plates RM8, Brown plates RM12 and Full Brown ones are RM16. Actually I am not a big fan of seasoned baby octopus but I took it anyway, one of the reason being it’s one of the cheapest around lol.
By the way, all the sushi we had that day (in Sunway Pyramid’s branch) were at least above average to great so I am not gonna elaborate much on the food. Just see see the photos lah ok.
