Sarawak Cultural Village Visit @ Santubong Part 1
Dec 13th
If you are planning to visit Sarawak soon for leisure and sightseeing purposes, Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) should not be missed. [tag]Sarawak Cultural Village[/tag] is located on the foothills of Mount Santubong, which is about 35 km away from Kuching.
Previously, I had a free two nights stay at Holiday Inn Damai Beach and SCV is only half a mile away from the hotel. I commuted to SCV using the hotel’s free shuttle service (although I should mention the walking distance is really quite short). I may have to split this visit into 3 posts because there are altogether 51 photos to show!
At SCV, One will get to experience the lifestyle, culture and witness the heritage of the major ethnic groups in Sarawak. Despite the expensive RM60 entrance fee, SCV remains as one of my most memorable visits in [tag]Sarawak[/tag] and I really recommend it to anyone who can afford the tickets.
I saw a few foreigners who were turned away by the ticket price. After I completed the tour, I was pretty sure their decision was a mistake. Because, the ticket price is really worth it in exchange for a great experience. Besides, the price surely wouldn’t be a problem to them if converted into their native currency.
The signboard actually has the words “Selamat Datang Ke Kampung Budaya Sarawak”. But the early sun was so bright, it caused some reflection so you won’t really notice it in the photo. Or maybe it’s because my skills just sucked, lol.
SL and I were the first visitors to arrive at SCV that morning at 8.45am, we were quite excited about the trip really. For your information, SCV’s opening hours is from 9am to 5.15pm daily. When you’re at the entrance feel free to marvel at the wonderful rocks, which is actually already part of SCV’s attaction – a modern stone Sculpture Park. That’s me in the background (notice pointing arrow) waiting for the ticketing girl to come, lol.
Malaysia-China Friendship Garden @ Kuching
Oct 18th
The Malaysia-China Friendship Garden, known as Taman Sahabat in Malay was built to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Located on Jalan Song in [tag]Kuching[/tag] South, it is inarguably one of the nicest parks in Malaysia. I was fortunate enough to visit the beautiful and memorable park with the help of a buddy of mine, Allen who took us on his car. For your information, entrance is free.
This big arch is actually another entrance to the park via the back. A signboard hanging on the arch has the Chinese words 马中友谊公园, which translates to the park’s name – [tag]Malaysia[/tag] [tag]China[/tag] Friendship [tag]Garden[/tag]. It is designed using China’s ancient buildings style.
Pulau Ketam Trip Part Two
Aug 9th
There aren’t many landmarks in Pulau Ketam. So, even the basic facilities like the police station and fire station are considered as local attractions.
I am pretty sure [tag]Pulau Ketam[/tag] is a safe place to have a dedicated police station serving the residents.
Bomba Sukarelawan Pulau Ketam was formed in 1972, located not far from the police station. It was a need by the residents of Pulau Ketam because a few fire incidents happened back in the 60s and 70s. Pulau Ketam’s residents form the team of volunteer fire fighters.
Pulau Ketam Trip Part One
Aug 8th
Pulau Ketam is a small island located off the coast of Port Klang and is accessible by ferry from Port Klang. Literally translated, Pulau Ketam means Crab Island. I was there for a one day trip after hearing some good things about the seafood on the island. Actually, driving to Port Klang was a huge mistake, it was a long journey. And we got lost on the way too. It’s more convenient to use the KTM, as the jetty to Pulau Ketam is just next to the Port Klang KTM station.
First thing we did reaching [tag]Pulau Ketam[/tag] was of course to find some [tag]seafood[/tag] to eat!
We chose Kuai Lok Hian because the other restaurants were too full. Tourists especially families and fishing groups were coming in droves that day, making full use of the public holiday.
We wanted to order crab since we were in “Crab Island”. Come to Crab Island of course must eat crabs, right? But, the price was just too expensive – RM40 per kg. Even crabs in KL don’t cost that much! So, we had to opt for other seafood like this Fried Calamari @ RM8. Nice and crispy, very well worth the price paid.
Second dish, Kam Heong Mantis Prawns @ RM12. I was really surprised at the cheap price. And you can see that the mantis prawns are quite big and meaty. Not only it’s cheap, it tasted great too!
