St Anne’s Church Bukit Mertajam had a face lift about 1-2 years ago.. The existing church was given a new coat of paint and a souvenir shop as well as a security office were built. One of the interesting addition were the 15 life sized statues that tell the story of Jesus when he was crucified. The statues cost RM600,000 and are really life sized. The process of looking for all the statues was quite fun, it felt like a treasure hunt.
1. I am condemned to death
2. I am made to carry my cross
3. I fall the first time
4. I meet my sorrowful mother
5. Simon is forced to carry my cross
6. Veronica wipes my face
7. I fall the second time
8. I meet the wailing women of Jurusalem
9. I fall the third time
10. I am stripped off my clothes
11. I am nailed to the cross
12. I die on the cross
13. I am taken down from the cross
14. My body is put in a tomb
15. I am the Resurrection and the life
There you have it, all 15 life sized statues featured in St Anne’s church. It was a really nice visit after so long (it’s been around 4-5 years since I last went) Quite happy also knowing that Bukit Mertajam has a new landmark now :)

Hi!
Thanks for sharing this. I have linked your post to mine.
Jesus, Lover of my soul
Jesus, i will never let You go
You’ve taken me from the miry clay
You set my feet upon the Rock
Now i know
I love You
I need You
Though my world may fall
I’ll never let You go
My Savior
My Risen Lord
I will worship You
Until the very end
[…] I wanted to add this entry following my last post about St Anne’s Church Life Sized Statues few days ago but was just too busy. Hope you enjoy the photos! This is the entrance to the new church, it is really majestic. I am not a Christian.. so I have absolutely no idea what is being portrayed on the wall. An angel statue holding to a flower, placed at both sides of the main entrance, there is a pair of them. Upon entering the church, look at the amazing roof architecture.. the light creates a very peaceful ambience. Notice the amount of fans around? A lot leh.. Extra shots of the surroundings. A statue of St Michaals defeating a devil, good will always triumph over evil This is the old church, there were more people praying here actually. There are more photos (featuring other buildings and surroundings) I would like to share, which will be added in the third part of St Anne’s Church : Church Exterior. […]
[…] This entry will feature some photos of the church exterior I took last week. I was having breakfast with my mum and she suggested me to visit the church. So I went with my gf and we spent 2 hours there walking around, taking photos and hunting for the 15 life sized statues. 6 buses carrying pilgrims from other states came and left during my visit. I think they are brought here via tours organized by their church committees. All photos shown below are taken between 9-11 am that day. An overview of the new church building. It looks small in this photo but it is really HUGE if you view it in real size. I took this photo like 40 metres away.. in order to get a shot like this. A closer view of the fountain, featuring St Mary and her daughter. I think this is the first fountain in Bukit Mertajam? A nice one too The new church, taken from the back. Further behind are the administration office and some chambers. This is one of my favorites, because it looks taken somewhere out of Malaysia.. Just my opinion though lol. If you are planning a visit to this church, remember to bring along a few bottles to fill up St Anne’s Water. We bought 2 bottles resembling St Mary’s figurine sold in one of the tents which cost RM3 each. The proceedings are used to fund the cost of setting up the life sized statues. An angel figurine.. seen at one of the church’s side door. This is taken from the old church. A photo featured in one of the leaflets inspired me to take this shot. Overview of the old church building. The chinese words, if translated to English bears the meaning “Hall of the Heaven Owner” There is a stairway leading up to the small hill behind the old church, this rock is beside the stairway, you can’t miss it. When you reach the top, there is another place for pilgrims to pray and light their candles. […]

Nice Shoot & briefing!
Hello,
Thank you for the beautiful photos of St Anne Church in BM. I’d like to go for the St. Anne’s feast this year (falls on Sat 25th July evening, right?) as I’m a newly baptised Catholic. I’d appreciate it if you would kindly give me the directions (public transports) on how to go there from the Ferry Terminal in Butterworth?
But if the procession ends very late, coming back to Butterworth terminal will be out of question…..
Pls advise?
Thanks and regards,
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, sorry I do not have the info for the public transport, except for taking taxi
